NRM Electoral Commission boss excited as Ministers Lose in Primaries

The NRM primary election have shown how some of those in the ruling party no longer have support even form their own members.

Dr. Tanga Odoi the EC Chairman NRM, maintained a smiley face through yesterday evening press conference at the party Electoral Commission (EC) offices in Kyadondo, after listening to grievances of the people from Kyankwanzi and receiving petitions from a number of unsuccessful candidates.

Tanga noted that this is an expression of a credible election that has been organized by the Electoral Commission, where a common man would manage to win a minister and as well as incumbents.

Three arrested for grabbing ballot papers in NRM primaries.

The Aswa region [police spokesperson Patrict Jimmy Okema has today advised the youth to concentrate on activities that can generate money to elevate e their households from poverty.
Okema was responding to media reports that three boys, oloya Kenneth, Opiyo George and Opiyo Stephen Kilama agents of Atimago Christine an MP aspirant for Gulu municipality where yesterday arrested by police from Alokolum- kirombe polling station and remanded to Gulu Central police station for grabbing ballot papers with the intention to disrupt elections.

He added that the youth have to bear in mind that the politicians that they work for as agents when elected into power shall not be working for individuals but for the good of all people under their mandate.

Okema said the Aswa region NRM primary elections were generally peaceful and urged for such good attitude in the forthcoming 2016 general elections.

Police inspector to face disciplinary action.

Inspector Latigo Morris attached to Aywee police post is to face disciplinary action for voting in the NRM primary elections at Police Primary polling station in Gulu Municipality where he was supposed to guard and ensure law and order.
According to Aswa Region police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema, Latigo acted contrary to police code of conduct that bars them from participating in partisan politics.
He says Latigo has already recorded a statement at Gulu Central Police Station and his issue has been forwarded to police disciplinary committee for actions.

Okema added that Latigo will be charged with misconduct because he was reportedly voting while in police uniform and on duty.
Opposition politician have on several occasions accused the police for being partisan in Ugandan politics.

41,0000 NATIONAL IDS NOT PICKED AT SUB COUNTY OFFICES

Gulu District chairman Ojara Martin Mapenduzi has this morning urged the over 41,000 people who have not yet picked their National Identity cards to do so with the sub county offices.

The IDs he says will be paramount for one to participate in any activity at both local and national level especially during the ongoing elections and the major 2016 General elections.

Ask you neighbor if they already have theirs because with what we see now, 2016 environment is unpredictable.

VENDORS TO APPEAL WITH MUNICIPAL….

The Chairman Laroo Main Market Vendors Assocation John Odur has today refuted media reports that the venders from behind Kakanyero market have rejected the newly built main market saying that their problem is with the space that the vendors are using that are too small and some vendor have no stall or lock up in the new market while others have three names attached to a single stall.
Odur while talking to our reporter from his office said that they are in talks with Laroo Division and municipal authorities to grant them permission to continue using the market behind Kakaneyro to accommodate those who still do not have space in the main market and those from Kaunda Ground market that has most of the structures already demolished.

The vendors’ spokesperson Kaunda Robinson added that there are about 700 vendors in the market but there are only about 150 designated for them and yet these are men and women who are on loan and have families that they support with income from the small businesses they operate in the market.

He advised the Vendors to stay calm and continue conduct their businesses as usual and leave the executive committee to handle the issue with the responsible authorities.
The Vendors were given an ultimatum of two weeks by the Municipal tow clerk that expires today but talks are underway to harmonize the situation.

HIV PREVELANCE RATE ON THE INCREASE IN GULU.

The communities in Gulu have today been advised by counselors at TASO to live their lives responsibly to avoid getting infected with HIV.
Susan, a counselor at TASO Centre Gulu during an interview with our reporter from her office said the community needs to embrace counseling and testing which are offered free of charge at most health facilities so that they know their status and get on treatment according to their level of CD4 counts.
She discouraged people from waiting until their situation is worst yet they have the service in places that are even known to them.
Psycho social Services Coordinator Oburu Febian told our reporter today from his office that they receive on average 9-10 new positive clients on a clinic day which shows an increase in the rate of infection in Gulu.
Oburu says every clinic day is for testing and counseling but majority of the youth who visit the centre are those who got infected through mother to Child transition of the Virus.
He advised the youth to attend the Special Clinic once a month to be counseled, share with others and also watch educative movies that can encouraged them to live a better life.
He however discouraged those who are living positive from having multiple sexual partners since it negatively affects their health.
The prevalence rate for HIV new infections has increased in Gulu for the past four months according to reports from TASO centre Gulu.
