TALK ABOUT HAND WASHING AFTER USING THE TOILET OR LATRINE

Up to 93.2% of homes states in Gulu district are presumed to be operating without any hand washing facility yet it’s a key kit in promoting preventive health in family circles and at societal levels.

A research conducted recently in Gulu district by the District planning unit shows that only 6.8% of the homes in Gulu have got the required hand washing facilities while sanitation coverage stands at 58%.

The 6.8% coverage would therefore mean that of the projected 412, 634 populations in Gulu district, 384,566 people do not wash their hands after using a latrine or a toilet and 173,307 people do not keep their homes clean.

The statistics also shows that 217,442 households have latrine coverage at the district however within Gulu municipality there are challenges of sewerage system designed to accommodate low population.

John Charles Luwa Gulu district planner said most people do not take hand washing after visiting latrines or toilets as a useful health practice recommended for a healthy life and hygienic way of development.

He advised people to plan for their families as the district in turn plan for the welfare of the whole district.
