Suspect’s identification document fell at scene of crime leading to arrests

The chairman LC1 of Bwonagweno A, Odongkara Opiyo Martias has castigated some people who make their work difficult by failing to record statements at the police when called up to do so.

Odongkara urged his members to follow up cases that are forwarded to the police to help the police prosecute the accused and punished accordingly.

He made the remark on Monday after the arrest of 4 suspects in connection to housebreaking and stealing house-holds items worth millions of shillings.

Odongkara said the arrest was made after one suspect’s identification document accidently fell at the scene of crime which led to the arrest of the other 3 culprits.

He added that despite their efforts to take the accused to Gulu Central police stations, the complainant commonly known as Ray failed to turn up and record the statement.

The chairman said the act of the complainant will prompt the police to drop the case and increase more crime in the area.

He added that most times when an LC1 office forwards cases to the police, always the complainants refuse to follow up on the cases and at the end blame the LC1 office or the police when the suspect is released.

Odongkara also called upon the public to stop mob justice and follow the rightful procedures to have the culprits brought to justice.
