Rev father Uma Justin Erick the new parish priest of Holy Rosary parish has called upon Christian to stop toiling for what they cannot get.
Preaching the gospel from the book of mark Chapter 10 verse 21, Rev Uma urged Christians to help the needy and they will have treasure in heaven.
Uma told his congregation not to look down to what they have but use it well in order to get what they don’t have.
He adviced the congregation to believe in God because he is the provider of everything.

ELIMINATION OF AVIODABLE BLINDNESS

Gulu district has celebrated the national day for World Sight under the “The Integrated Eye Care Team – Working Together to Eliminate Avoidable Blindness.

Caroline Rose Adong the Councilor Representing disabled people in Gulu district local government has called on the of Gulu to start giving maximum attention to the Blind.

Caroline who also doubles as the district Secretary Community development said in many cases people always look down the blind and the people with disability as a whole.

She also complained that the government is not doing enough to help the Blind especially by not giving enough reading material like the constitution.

Caroline said there is low budgetary allocation for people with disability mentioning only two million shillings for Gulu district yearly and 30 million given yearly by the ministry of Gender labor and social development respectively.

IS SUICIDE A SOLUTION TO ANYTHING?

Over 60 people in the Acholi sub-region have committed suicide since the year started, reports show. Residents of Abwoch village in Koch Ongako County, Guru District, on Tuesday woke up to a rude shock, after one of their own, Christopher Opiru, 32, hang himself.

Opiru is one of the many people in northern Uganda who have resorted to ending their lives. Beatrice Acen, the wife to the deceased, says Opiru had threatened her with death on several occasions.

Kizito calls for collective responsibility, adding that if people learn that somebody is having suicidal tendencies, their relatives should report to the Police, local leaders, health workers, cultural and religious leaders, so that the individuals are given treatment or psycho-social support.

Kenneth Oketta, the prime minister of Ker Kwaro Acholi, has called on the local leaders in the different communities in Acholi sub-region to take a lead in counselling people to reduce on the increasing suicide cases.

Oketta says people should not wait for the Government, NGOs and the head of the cultural intuitions in the region to carry out counselling.

We need to have a caring attitude towards others and realize that the hardships people go through are not permanent in this world.No situation in our lives is ever permanent.We need to be optimistic and hope that tomorrow will be a better day.

It is our responsibility to help people with suicidal tendencies to give them support and hope with the positive words that we use to encourage them.Life they say has no spare parts, so lets help in anyway we can be it in Acholi sub-region or beyond.Lets also have a positive attitude towards work and always try to avoid stress.

RETIRED SURGON AND PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE’S 2ND EDITION OF LUO DICTIONARY LAUNCHED

Amidst mixed feelings of celebrating Independence Day in Gulu district nine days after the official date 9th October annually, Professor Alexander Odonga yesterday launched his 2nd edition of Luo dictionary at Kaunda ground.

Mr.Okumu Charles Nelson the Dean faculty of education and humanities who edited the dictionary represented the ailing professor Odonga who couldn’t make it to the launch ceremony at Kaunda ground.

Minister without portfolio – Richard Todwong who graced the Golden Jubilee celebration in Gulu’s as chief guest officially launched the dictionary and picked a copy for the president of the republic of Uganda.

Two years ago, Uganda National Examination Board included Luo language in post primary curriculum and started examining it. Sacred Heart Secondary School Gulu and St. Catherine Aboke in Lira pioneered Luo UNEB exams.

Professor Odonga published the second edition of his dictionary in August, 2012 from India after 2005 first edition. Odonga is now 85 years old and a famous retired Surgeon and Professor of medicine of Mulago national referral hospital.

“ARCHBISHOP OF THE FARMILY”

The Democratic Party president Norbert Mao has today at St. Phillips Cathedral in Gulu, branded retired Archbishop of Church of Uganda – His Grace Henry Luke Orombi as the “Archbishop of the family” for his unending quest in protecting families.

Speaking during the Archbishop’s farewell visit as the Archbishop of Church of Uganda to the believers in northern Uganda, Mao praised the retired Archbishop for his gracious leadership legacy.

In an effort to preserve maternal health of expectant-mothers, the retired Archbishop today donated 100 mosquito nets to the Diocese of northern Uganda which will be distributed later to the targeted group.

Installation of the new Archbishop is expected to take place on 16th December at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe. His grace, the retired Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi will hand over the pastoral gear to Archbishop-elect the Rt. Rev. Stanley Ntagali.

RDC BLASTS WAR DEBT CLAIMANT ASSOCIATION DURING GULU GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION

Just as Gulu district yesterday at Kaunda ground wraps-up Uganda’s Golden Jubilee celebration at district level, Gulu Resident District Commissioner Nokrach Kidega blasted Acholi War Debt claimants association over corruption.
Speaking to thousands of people at the ground, the RDC commented on Government’s commitment in compensating claimants whose cattle got taken by different forces. He committed to battle embezzlers.

The RDC further warned contractors on kick-backs where they normally end-up with shoddy work in contrast to the invested money value.
Minister without portfolio – Richard Todwong who was the chief guest at the celebration thanked the RDC for setting pace in the fight against corruption and vehemently castigated the act of corruption.

TEENAGERS TOP ON CRIME LIST IN LAYIBI DIVISION, GULU DISTRICT

Teenagers in Layibi are becoming a security threat to the area due to their unruly behaviors as revealed by Chairman LC1 Acellam of Layibi Division, Kwite ward.

Acellam said that of all the cases reported to his office, majority of the suspected criminals is youth between ages 14-16 adding that the female youths are at the forefront of all cases. Teenagers are engaging in petty theft, house breaking, defilement, rape and prostitution among others.

He further explained that the attempts by his executive to protect the rights of these children are being frustrated by the children themselves.He noted that on several occasion the female teenagers declined to give testimony against those who defiles them instead they offer a plat form for such criminal to walk free in a similar manner young boys always accept to be kept indoors by sugar mummies who abuse them sexually and some end up being infected with HIV/AIDS.

Acellam attributes these anti social behaviors to too much freedom given by parents and guardians to youths in stead of engaging them in productive activities with the prevailing peace in Northern Uganda.

Meanwhile the youth in the area have continued to complain that they do not have jobs that can earn them money to have a better life.

According to Odong Christopher who is a potter, he says that since he topped out of school in Senior three two years ago, he has had no better job to take him back to school as his parents could no longer afford to keep him in school.
