RETIREMENT PACKAGE FOR YOUTH

Okot Joshua, aged 80 and a resident of Keyo in Amuru district, wants youth to get more involved in agriculture than gambling.

 Okot, an active fruits farmer with 2 hectares of grafted mangoes,2 hectares of bananas and 2 hectares of oranges says the ever soaring population is in high demand for food and other agricultural products.

 According to Okot, youths should grows fruits as it is much easier to maintain than seasonal crops which need weeding most of the time, a commitment he says youths are afraid of.

 He says fruits have sustainable periods despite changes in seasons of the year which affect other crops.

 

LACK OF ARCHITECTURAL PLAN FOR DISABLED

The chairperson Gulu Disabled Persons’ Union Ongom Simon has appealed to the district leaders and members of parliament to consider the building control act of 2013 in consideration to people with disability’s access to facilities in the district.

 Ongom said people with disability in Gulu are facing challenges ofaccessing buildings in the district because a bigger percentage of houses do not have rams.

 He added that most bars, restaurants, hotels are not considering the building control act, and consequently people with disability have complained to his office of jobless as they can’t access such premises.

 In the past, the disability group threatened to drag Gulu district local government to court over lack of architectural plan to enable disabled persons access the district head quarter building.
